About Deeper Than Journalism
At Deeper Than Journalism, this work is personal. Founded by journalist and community advocate Sergio Cruel, our mission is simple but urgent:
“When a loved one goes missing, we make sure the world knows their name.”
For too long, families of the missing have struggled to get their stories heard. That’s where we step in. Through powerful storytelling, advocacy, and community partnerships, Deeper Than Journalism amplifies their voices and brings attention to cases that should never be forgotten.
This brand is more than news—it’s a movement. Every article we publish, every product we create, and every video we share is dedicated to one purpose: finding the missing and supporting the families left searching.
By supporting us, you’re not just joining a cause—you’re helping build a world where no one goes missing without notice, and every story matters.

About Sergio Cruel
Sergio Cruel, a Philadelphia native, brings nearly a decade of on-air journalism experience from top markets. He began his career in 2015 with Fox 5 NY’s Chasing News before joining Fox 29 in Philadelphia, where he covered stories on gun violence, missing persons, and community issues. His most impactful work helped reunite a family after a missing person story reached over two million viewers. Now reporting in Rochester, Sergio focuses on telling stories that matter to the community. Outside of work, he enjoys working out, studying, and exploring the city.
